It's time to meet the Director of Newsies; Mia Kadwell!

Mia has been performing on stage for over a decade and began her performance journey as a dancer at 7 years old. Her passion for dance developed into her passion for theater where she performed in her first musical, The Little Mermaid Jr. (2014), at age 11. She fell in love with the art and continued to perform in several Footliters productions and once in high school, performed with the Cadillac High School Viking Theatre program. Her favorite roles include Jasmine in Aladdin Jr. (2017), Ellie Blake in Freaky Friday (2019), Babette in Beauty and The Beast (2019), and Nicely Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls (2020).

In addition to being on stage, Mia has been involved in numerous productions either choreographing, stage managing, or assistant-directing. Though Newsies is her first experience lead-directing a production for Footliters, she began her production journey in 2019 when she co-choreographed Shrek Jr. From there, Mia choreographed Frozen Jr. (2022) and Junie B Jones Jr. (2023), assistant-directed and stage-managed Puffs (2022) and is in the process of choreographing and assistant-directing Seussical Jr. for Footliter’s Youth program. In addition to her production roles with Footliters, she co-directed the Cadillac High School Viking Theatre productions Chemical Bonding (2019) and Somewhere, Nowhere (2020), and co-choreographed Rock of Ages (2022) and Footloose (2023). She also co-directed the Cadillac High School Viking Theater Variety Shows (2021/2022).

After high school, Mia attended DePaul University in Chicago, IL where she studied Film and Television with a concentration in Directing. While in Chicago, she was able to study at Second City Chicago and directed/produced two short films (That Kiss Guy and Wonders: Mary-Mary Gift Shop). This fall, she has decided to continue her educational journey at Grand Valley State University where she will study Education with the hopes of becoming a theater teacher.

Mia is thrilled to have the opportunity to direct Footliters' production of "Newsies" and is so excited for her cast and team to be able to share their hard work with the community. She is truly grateful to have such a talented and dedicated cast, crew, and production team and would like to thank Footliters for giving her this opportunity!

Stay tuned, tickets for Newsies will be on sale soon!
